National Energy Administration: Promote an annual increase of 1 percentage point in the proportion of non fossil energy consumption

Zhang Jianhua, Director of the National Energy Administration of China, recently stated in Beijing that efforts will be made to increase the proportion of non fossil energy consumption by 1 percentage point annually.
At the series of themed press conferences on "Promoting High Quality Development" held by the State Council Information Office on the same day, Zhang Jianhua pointed out that steadily and orderly promoting the "dual carbon" goal on the basis of effectively ensuring the rational energy demand for economic and social development is the fundamental task for Chinas high-quality energy development in the coming period.
On the one hand, we need to do a good job in reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions on the consumer side. He stated that we will deepen the implementation of actions to reduce and replace fossil energy consumption, and strictly and reasonably control coal consumption. Promote the transformation and upgrading of energy consumption methods, promote the substitution of electricity in industries such as construction, transportation, and agriculture, and enhance the guarantee capability of electric vehicle charging services. By 2025, about 12 million charging infrastructure will be built nationwide. Strive to increase the electrification level of terminal energy consumption to around 30% by 2025.
On the other hand, we need to do a good job in adding up the quality and quantity of non fossil energy on the supply side. Intensify the development of non fossil energy and coordinate the promotion of nuclear power, hydropower, and new energy development and utilization. Strengthen the construction of system regulation capacity and enhance the grids ability to accept, allocate, and regulate clean energy. At the same time, we should take the issuance and trading of renewable energy green power certificates as the starting point to promote the continuous expansion of green power consumption scale, drive more energy demand increment to be met by non fossil energy, and promote an annual increase of 1 percentage point in the proportion of non fossil energy consumption.
